![]() ![]() ![]() Submissions to the JCB Prize have consistently come from over a dozen states across India each year-the 2021 longlist was chosen from submissions by writers from across 16 states writing in multiple languages. Each year, the diversity symbolised by varied voices gets reflected in the prize’s lists and are a reflection of the energy and vitality that the prize brings to the country’s literary environment.” Speaking specifically to translations, she adds that the prize “believes wholeheartedly in translations and that they are as integral a part of our storytelling repertoire.” Indeed, this diversity and variety is reflected in the quantity and quality of submissions each year. Mita Kapur, literary director of the JCB Prize, shares the inclusive prospect of the awards when she says, “India’s vibrant literary landscape, encompassing geographies, languages and histories, is the keystone of the JCB Prize for Literature.
